No One Will Save You
It's the 30th anniversary of The X-Files (streaming on Disney+), and tales of alien abductions are as popular as ever.
Earlier in the year, I rewatched Fire in the Sky on Freevee, which was nightmare fuel and a far cry from director Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
No One Will Save You scratches an X-Philes-sized itch on Hulu and Disney+. The straight-to-streaming sci-fi movie deserves to be seen on the big screen with a standout performance from Kaitlyn Dever (Brynn Adams).
Director Brian Duffield delivers a masterclass in sight and sound - Joseph Trapenese's soundtrack makes adroit use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound to amp the unrelenting tension to the nth degree as Dever battles a home invasion from another world.
With minimal use of dialogue, Duffield doesn't shy away from exploring childhood trauma and subverts familiar tropes with creepy, shadowy, horrifying twists.
No One Will Save You is the perfect extra-terrestrial treat for Halloween.
