The year of AI
Season’s greetings!
As much as I’m loathe to invoke an old cliché. This year has flown by! From family matters to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), 2023 engaged warp factor 9 and hasn’t slowed down…
Like many, I’m curious about the sociological implications of AI! Ambient computing is as cool as it sounds and broadly describes smart devices used in everyday life. From wearables to automobiles, there's no escaping this omnipresent technology and privacy threat.
Are we dealing with a moral panic when AI can be an enabler for those with a disability? It’s a subject I will be returning to as so-called AI co-pilots become normalised as I explore ‘creative opportunities’ (Princess Leia Organa (Stormtrooper disguise) was generated using DALL-E)).
Regarding this newsletter, I’ve not posted as much as I would have liked this year! Perhaps a vacancy for ChatGPT - I jest (someone blocked me on Mastodon for making a similar joke)!
However, I’m always cognisant of flooding folks’ inboxes, and I’ve pivoted more towards writing regularly on Generation Star Wars (aided by my good friend, Nick Smith).
Post-pandemic, I’ve yet to feel compelled to see a movie at the cinema! 4 years ago, I saw Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Star Wars movies neatly bookended adventures on the big screen, and I’m fine with that.
May the festive Force be with you! Always.
