Yesterday's Enterprise
Paramount+ dropped the highly-anticipated Star Trek: Strange New Worlds live-action crossover with the animated adult spin-off series Star Trek: Lower Decks episode early following a San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) screening last weekend.
Growing up in the seventies and eighties, I watched reruns of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) and Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS) on television and home video.
When Paramount+ announced a crossover between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, it was the culmination of my fandom since childhood! All that was missing were my Dinky Toys’ USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and Klingon Battle Cruiser, Mego action figures and Remco electronic Phaser Gun for full immersion.
Could this be one of the greatest Star Trek episodes of all time in an already brilliant second season of Strange New Worlds?
Those Old Scientists, another time travel trek that picks up on previous threads, is filled with the nostalgic philosophising and exploratory nature of classic Star Trek as championed in Strange New Worlds deftly mixed with the rapid-fire comedy of Lower Decks, and, as our world burns (literally but not irrevocably if we act in unison), I’m here for it.
What a time to be a Star Trek fan!
Hit it!
